PRIME LOCATION

The 5 star Fontsanta Hotel & Thermal Spa is located close to the towns of Ses Salines and Colonia Sant Jordi in the south eastern part of the island.

This retreat boasts the only natural thermal spring waters in the Balearics and is adjacent to the nearby nature reserve of Es Trenc – Salobrar de Campos, a designated area of special natural interest due to it’s sand dunes, salt flats and a natural wetland habitat for many migratory birds and native plants.

Two of the island’s best beaches, Es Trenc and Ses Covetes with their crystal clear waters and white sands, are close at hand by bicycle or via the hotel’s private transfer service.

A LITTLE HISTORY

The word “spa” comes from the first letters of the Latin phrase “salus per aqua” – health through water.

The Romans, who knew quite a lot about sitting around in stone baths and allowing restorative waters ease their aching limbs, captured Mallorca in 123 B.C. and are credited for finding the waters at what is known as Fontsanta. Over the centuries many have followed them to ‘take the waters’ for the healing and beneficial properties of the warm mineral springs.

Refurbished in 2012, the present sandstone villa of the Fontsanta Hotel & Thermal Spa dates back to 1869 when the waters first gained official approval for public use because of their health giving properties.

ART & SCULPTURE

Art is very much to the forefront at Fontsanta Hotel & Thermal Spa as can be seen by the numerous sculptures in the gardens and artworks on display inside the hotel. Local artist Maria Morell Oliver’s paintings can be seen in many of the rooms, suites and common areas whilst this year the gardens feature a number of life sized works by the Mallorcan sculptor José Mendiola.

ROOMS & SUITES

The hotel features 37 large rooms and suites, some in the main building and others situated around the estate and gardens. There are 15 double rooms and 21 suites, varying in size and layout, many of which have their own private terraces and patios with views over the adjacent natural landscape. There is also one exclusive, luxury two storey villa of 160 m2 with it’s own pool and private parking.

The rooms and suites are decorated in a neutral palette with designer furniture, luxury fittings and wooden beams. They all feature the latest technology, LED televisions, free wifi, smart lighting and air conditioning, plus all the comfort amenities that ensure guests are cosseted and can experience maximum enjoyment during their stay.

 FONTSANTA RESTAURANT & BAR

Dining at the Fontsanta Hotel’s restaurant is not over formal, the pale modern decor integrates perfectly with the exposed stone walls, wooden-beamed ceiling and central fireplace. This building is separate to the main house and has a lovely large terrace area with a long soothing water feature.

It’s a perfect place for a leisurely breakfast where variety and wellness are to the forefront. There is a mouth watering array of local produce, in fact more or less everything you could want including freshly cooked eggs, crepes and pancakes to order.

The hotel prides itself on it’s ‘healthy gastronomic innovations’. At lunch there is a lovely classic selection of Tapas and tasty Wok dishes including, Prawns, squid and pak choi, Asparagus, aubergine, shitake and soy sprouts available with either green curry, yellow curry or Mango and peanut sauces.

In the evening the new autumn dinner menu includes two tempting tasting menus, one Vegan and the other intriguingly named ‘Essence & Soul’. On the main menu the ‘Black Pork’ suckling pig, banana chips and roasted corn in smoked butter seemed to be the obvious default choice. The comprehensive wine list includes a terrific selection of over forty local wines.

Wednesday evening is ‘Tapas night’ with some live music, although the vocalist’s playlist might require a bit of tweaking!

POOLS & JACUZZIS

This hotel is blessed with not only one pool but two! One large infinity pool with terrace, large day beds and a sunbathing area. The second pool is not exactly small either, this has it’s own terrace, large day beds and sunbathing area as well. There are also four outside jacuzzis with Balinese sun loungers hidden around the pine and lavender scented gardens.

ES REFUGI

New this year is a direct transfer service running from the hotel via private road to ‘Refugi d’Es Trenc’. A wonderful hideaway located in the nearby forest and only a few minutes walk from the white sands of Es Trenc beach and it’s crystal clear waters. Es Refugi has all you will need to be comfortable, a mini buffet of drinks and fresh fruit, towels and beach umbrellas, outdoor showers, toilets and relaxation areas. Just ask at reception for the times of departure from the hotel and pick up from the hideaway.

THERMAL SPA & WELLNESS

Fontsanta’s Thermal Spa is without doubt the star feature of this hotel offering guests a unique experience.

The sophisticated Spa complex covers some 700 square metres with over 25 rooms offering a whole range of facilities. This is not some basement excuse for a spa hidden in the bowels of the hotel, this is a spacious light, professionally run and well staffed spa with everything you could really need.

The immersion zone offers a large thermal pool with underwater jets, double or single thermal baths and a thermal jacuzzi. There is a Vaporarium, an artificial cave with temperatures reaching between 36 and 39° C and a relative humidity of 90%, a Finnish sauna and Turkish bath. In the Toning zone you’ll find sensations and cube showers as well as an ice fountain.

The Spa’s expert team of professional therapists and masseuses offer a wide range of thermal treatments, facial and body treatments as well as beauty treatments for hands and feet.

After all this, relaxation is the name of the game, try out their waterbed area, the outdoor solarium or the relaxation room.
