Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden selected as Best Hotel at the INSIDE awards
Last month Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden in Palma de Mallorca was selected Best Hotel at the INSIDE awards at the World Architecture Festival held in Amsterdam. In addition it was also selected as ‘highly commended’ for the overall best interior design of the year among all categories of the World Architecture Festival.
The awards for Best Hotel and Interior Design of the Year “Highly Commended” were presented to the internationally renowned OHLAB whose main office is based in Palma de Mallorca. OHLAB is devoted to urban analysis and cultural research of contemporary society through design, architectural practice and urban strategy.
The directors and architects Paloma Hernaiz and Jaime Oliver were responsible for the project to comprehensively reform the abandoned, historic building of 2500 square metres.
The Judges said: “We admired the re-use of a run down but elegant building that retained and respected some of the existing decay, adding new antiquities. This was a bold and successful approach for a five star hotel experience.”
One really can’t fault the judges for their decision as the respectful intervention undertaken by OHLAB has sought to maintain the traces of the past whilst bringing the building into the 21st century with great panache.
