10 restaurants with 9 Michelin Stars listed in Mallorca for 2021
10 restaurants with 9 Michelin Stars listed in Mallorca for 2021.
The Michelin Guide was established in France in 1900 and still uses the same simple criteria:
★ = ‘Very good cooking in its category’
★★ = ‘Excellent cooking – worth a detour’
★★★ = ‘Exceptional cuisine – worthy of a special journey’
The Michelin stars are the tip of the gastronomic iceberg. In this most difficult year on the island of Mallorca Chef Fernando Pérez Arellano’s Zaranda restaurant retained its two star status again whilst finalising a new location for Zaranda in Palma.
Chef Álvaro Salazar’s new restaurant Voro at the Park Hyatt Mallorca Hotel, Canyamel gained it’s first star whilst five other restaurants on the island, Adrián Quetglas in Palma, Andreu Genestra in Capdepera, Chef Rapael Sanshez’s Es Fum in Costa d’en Blanes, Chef Joseph Sauerschell’s Es Raco d’es Teix in Deià, Chef Macarena de Castro’s restaurant Maca de Castro in Port d’Alcúdia and Marc Fosh in Palma all retained their one star status.

Michelin stars were awarded to local chefs, Santi Taura for his DINS restaurant within the boutique hotel El Llorenç Parc de la Mar in Palma, and father and son Benet and Jaume Vicens of Béns d’Avall restaurant in Soller/Deia
The latest 2021 edition also welcomed a new distinction, the MICHELIN Green Star which aims to highlight exemplary establishments operating at the forefront of sustainable gastronomy with virtuous initiatives. This was awarded to Andreu Genestra for the first time.

The island will continue it’s gastronomic journey with these extraordinary chefs and restaurants.
If there was any doubt, the Michelin 2021 awards confirm Mallorca’s place on the foodie map of Spain.
Let’s hope they all open again very very soon.
