Sian Mackay went to live on the Spanish island of Mallorca in the 1990’s, she was interested in writing fiction, and after two of her short stories were published – one a short-listed ‘long short story’ – she felt encouraged to write her first novel Rafael’s Wings (2006). After thirteen years she returned to Scotland and worked on two books in parallel during the next decade. At the end of that decade working at her writing studio in the Scottish Highlands, she settled back in her birthplace, Edinburgh, in 2015.
